Cancer from Asbestos

There's a fibrous mineral that is known by the call name asbestos that is often seen in cancer, asbestos cancer occurs in those individuals who have been exposed to this fibrous mineral. Most of the time it occurs most frequently in men the ages of 50 , it is not unseen in women. The United States sees up to 3000 cases of asbestos cancer every year.

Cancer usually occurs in the form of mesothelioma, it is a cancer of the body's liner of the vital organs known as the mesothelium layer. Basically, there is an abrupt growing of this layer around the internal organs, resulting in cancer. This explosion of growth often impairs the functioning of these types of vital organs.

There's a variety of symptoms that come with mesothelioma cancer, such as a chronic cough, weight loss, trouble breathing or difficulty swallowing, fluid buildup in the chest, along with pain in the abdomen and chest area. As the cancer metastasizes it begins to affect the surrounding organs.

As a rule, this particular asbestos cancer is incurable, but it is treatable, and there are many options for treatment available. A combination of therapies may be used in asbestos cancer treatment, along with traditional cancer therapies such as chemotherapy. Often, a combination of treatments is ordered in order to try to reduce the damage that is caused by mesothelioma, asbestos cancer.

You'll often see three common treatments used in asbestos cancers such as radiation treatment, excising surgery, and of course chemotherapy. It's up your doctor as to whether the these are used concurrent, one at a time, or altogether. The hardest part for doctors is that mesothelioma, also known as asbestos cancer can rely dormant for a very long time. Often seen that it takes anywhere from 20 to 50 years from exposure in order for asbestos cancer to start showing signs. It's vital that if you have been exposed to asbestos at any time in your life that you stay current with all health checkups with your doctor.

You'll likely have a full team of doctors to examine you, led by an oncologist also known as a cancer specialist, you will also probably have a radiologist involved, pulmonary therapists, as well as a psychologist in order to help you deal with this disease.

As doctors research more about mesothelioma, asbestos cancer, more treatment options become available. Nowadays, it's illegal to use asbestos in roofing or housing, and there is special equipment that is used in order to remove asbestos as carefully as possible. Make sure that if you have been exposed to asbestos during your life that you get the health care that you need, in order to start aggressive therapies before the cancer spreads to its deadly conclusion.
